PUL MEMBERSHIP AFFIRMS LEADERSHIP ACTION AGAINST HATE SPEECH

The Leadership of the Press Union of Liberia has been mandated to institute further actions aimed at curtailing hate speech, invectives and profanities on some Media institutions in the Country.

The PUL Leadership has been urged to collaborate with the National Legislature and other relevant State institutions in proffering legislation and policy that will enable the PUL by law to compel all Media institutions to conform to Journalistic Principles, PUL Code of Ethics and Societal Norms.

The decision was reached at the mass membership meeting held at the PUL headquarters on Tuesday, October 08, 2019.

The PUL membership decision was as a result of a Unanimous vote reaffirming the leadership recent Statement against hate speech and invectives.

The Membership earlier frowned on both Freedom F.M and Roots F.M as unwarranted, unbecoming and total disregard to ethical standards and Societal Norms.

The Membership maintained if nothing is done to remedy the increasing wave of invectives and profanities in the Media, the consequences may lead to the case of Rwanda.

Meanwhile, Members of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) have with immediate effect lifted the suspension of Vice President Octavian Williams.  Mr.  Williams was suspended by his colleagues last December for act inimical to the PUL.

The ban was lifted during a mass meeting at the headquarters of the Union Tuesday, October 8 2019 following a communication
