National Media Council Kicks off with Election of Leadership









Monrovia – Liberia, Friday, October 4, 2019: The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) in collaboration with INTERNEWS – Liberia on Friday, October 4, 2019 held an orientation with the newly appointed National Media Council (NMC).

The purpose of the activity was to prepare the Council as it assumes roles to self-regulate the media and to ensure adherence to the Ethics and Code of Conduct for journalists practicing in Liberia.

During the orientation, PUL, President, Charles B. Coffey, Jr. declared that the Union places explicit confidence in the Council, and asks the body to demonstrate boldness in doing its work to address the unprofessional way some media houses and practitioners conduct themselves in the discharge of their invaluable service to the public.

On her part, INTERNEWS – Liberia Chief of Party, Jan McArthur assured the Council of INTERNEWS – Liberia’s continuous support.

The 9-member National Media Council elected PUL former President, Elizabeth E. Hoff, Chairperson and Media Law Expert, Patmillia Doe-Paivey, Co-Chairperson.

Other members of the Council are: Media Hub Liberia Chief Executive Officer, Weah Karpeh, University of Liberia Mass Communication & Journalism Department Chairman, Euriah Togar, Young Women Christians Association President, Roseline Toweh, National Legislature’s Information Service Director, B. McCarthy Weh II, Faith Deliverance & Prayer Healing Ministries, Reverend Paye Bagnon, National Muslim Council of Liberia representative, Kabah Trawally and Catholic Justice and Peace Commission Director, Pilate Johnson.
