PUL holds Two Day Conflict Sensitive Journalism Training

(April 5, 2018, Gbarnga)- The Press Union of Liberia has announced that it will hold aTwo Day Conflict Sensitive Journalism Training on April 6- 7, 2018 in Gbarnga, Bong County. 

The event will be held at the Bong Offices of the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) as part of the continuation of Ecowas’ Emergency Response Mechanism Project titled “Support to Preventive Diplomacy and Related Actions to Ensure a Free, Fair and Peaceful Elections in Liberia”.

As part of this project, nineteen reporters will be trained in the fundamentals of journalism, importance of peace, conflict prevention through journalism, media law & ethics and social media, journalism and peace preservation. The nineteen participants will represent all fifteen counties of Liberia.

The training will refresh the journalists on the significance of safeguarding the peace and properly managing conflict sensitive information in the best interest of the state and the region at large.

Solidification of the peace, general enhancement of the capacity of journalists, better wages, Journalists Safety & Protection and Improvement of the Legal Operating Environment of the Media in Liberia are top programmatic priorities of Union.

The European Union funded initiative will guarantee quality reportage of the Post 2018 Electoral Period considering the importance of peace building after the hard fought elections which brought President George M. Weah to power.
