(Monrovia, August 10, 2017): The National Media Council of the Press Union of Liberia today began hearing into the complaint of D. Franklin Doloquee, a Nimba County Correspondent of the Liberia Broadcasting system, against the Liberty Party, at the Headquarters of the PUL on Clay Street, Monrovia.

Mr. Doloquee had filed a complaint to the National Media Council on allegations that some partisans of the Liberty Party dragged him and took away his tape recorder in the presence of the Party’s Standard Bearer, Cllr. Charles Brumskine, during its Candidates Nomination Convention in Ganta, Nimba County.

In addition to the incident at the convention, Mr. Doloquee explained to the Council that stalwarts of the party had persistently threatened and intimidated him on the basis that he usually reports negative information about the party.

But, in response to the allegations, the Liberty Party, represented by its Under Secretary for Press, Clarke Tumbay, refuted all allegations and said that the party had, at no time, neither flogged nor threatened Mr. Dologuee; and therefore demanded pieces of evidence to authenticate his claims.

Having listened to explanations by both parties and analyzed the contents, the Council adjourned the hearing until next week to enable both parties submit names of witnesses to support their claims in the matter.

At the same time, the suspended complaint hearing of House Speaker, Emmanuel Nuquay, through his Chief of Office Staff, Eric Kennedy against Emmanuel Mondaye of the New Dawn Newspaper today, failed to hold for the second time due to the absence of the accused party (Mr. Mondaye). Accordingly, the Council  said it will communicate to Mr. Mondaye to appear next week or else, his continuous  action could be a default; leaving the Council with no alternative, but to render its decision on the matter.

Following the successful end of both cases, the Council said it will brief the public on the trends and progress of activities of the Council in the coming week.
